The SGML Forum is an independent, nonprofit corporation established, and administered, by and for the user community--corporations, end-users and implementers.

Our members come from a variety of industries, professions and institutions, including publishing and other information providers, telecommunications, securities, insurance, pharmaceuticals, technical documentation, libraries, museums, defense and many other fields.

What we do

The SGML Forum holds regular meetings at which members and the interested public can learn about SGML and XML, their application, and supporting technologies. Meetings focus on a specific topic, and feature addresses by industry experts, case studies, and vendor demonstrations of new products.

Additionally, the Forum

  • sponsors educational events to advance the understanding of SGML, XML and their application;
  • conducts tutorials focusing on applied SGML, XML and related technologies; and
  • maintains a Technical Advisory Committee which attempts to influence standards development and implementation on behalf of the Forum's corporate sponsors, and coordinates the Forum's activities with those of allied organizations.

The Forum has also been a member of the National Information Standards Organization (NISO), which develops and promotes standards for information sciences, libraries and publishing.
